Fongo the company behind freephoneline powers Dell voice that gives you a free canadian number and allows you to call most of Canada for free, just as freephoneline it gives you a lot of features like follow me service if you want to forward this number to another number, voice mail delivered by e-mail etc. The really good with this one is that it has apps for Android and Iphone. Call many other countries
There is another free web solutions where you do not have to download anything you just go in on evaphone and place your call through their web based software phone. The number seems to disconnect after a few minutes so it is more targeting short calls.
Extend skype
If you want to have a free incoming number to skype and can be happy with a number where the ones that call you are prompted to enter your unique extension after they have dialed the number. ring2skype is a good alternative the only downside we have seen so far is that your skype has to be on, even if you have forwarded your skype incoming calls to another number. One important thing you have to do in order to get it to work is to add ring2skype.net to your contact list in skype to get it to work.
Google Voice
Of course we could not forget about the best free phone application out on the market. Google Voice. Google voice letś you call for free and send free texts to USA and Canada. If you live in USA and have a US phone number you simply sign up on their page. If you do not you can still get it by following this work around.

Workaround for Google Voice outside USA
1. First you need some kind of proxy for example Hotspot Shield. A lot of web based proxies does not simply work on the registration page.
2. You need a US phone number there are a lot of places that offers this, we would recommend IPkall.
3.. Start hotspot shield and then go to Google Voice registering page and register using your IPKall number.
You can now make calls for free to USA and Canada using google voice. If you change you language in gmail to English (US) you can even make phone calls from within gmail.
Call free to Canada and USA from Gmail.
At least under 2012 you can call free from gmail to Canada and USA.
The only thing you need is gmail and install this plugin to the browser.
